La Pizza Launch Night

Last week I went to the pre-opening family and friends night at Derby’s newest authentic Italian restaurant, La Pizza located on the popular Friar Gate.

What I loved about this place was that they’re super interactive on their Facebook page with everyone and their menu is based on original Italian pizzas, none of the copycat favourites out there.

The place is ran by Antonio and his family and he’s the loveliest guy! All their pizzas are homemade from scratch and they use original, Italian ingredients. Their pizza oven was even shipped over!

How huge is this?! It has an open kitchen view which I think is great because you can see your food actually being made by the skilled chefs.

The restaurant is located through the back in a cosy and quaint room. The staff show you to your table and the decor is one of a kind!

The colourful wall graffiti is very eye catching and has you staring for ages at all the intricate details.

We were seated in the middle of the room and were offered a choice of drinks along with table water and glasses.

I opted for a Sprite whilst mulling over their unique menu choices. Their drinks menu also includes a vast variety of milkshakes too but I’ll let you find them out for yourself…

I took my sister and mum along too so we could try a few different things.

My sister chose a simple Donna Margherita, my mum a O’Vesuvio (spicy salami and cheese) and I had a Pizza Verace (cherry tomatoes, parma ham, salami with a white base).

I was excited to try their  hand stretched goodness which I thought would take a while but they arrived within 15 minutes!

Apologies for the blurriness, I moved a bit quickly and I just wanted to tuck in!

The dough was so tasty and puffy at the sides where the crust formed. I had not tried a white base before so I was intrigued but it was pretty delicious and different. It added a lighter, smoother taste.

I did try a bite of my mum’s though because I have heard wondrous things about their tomato base (homemade too)!

The pizza was not stodgy or sickly, it was just right and left you feeling warm and fuzzy – as pizza does. The cheese was so tasty and the tomatoes perfectly juicy.

All three of us enjoyed our dishes and were thoroughly pleased with the standards of the food and service (perfect by the way).

After thanking the wonderful staff and having a last look around, we got up to leave.

Little did I know, their pizza selection had been printed on the wall – they do takeaway pizza for collection too! Such a great idea.

I think their prices are incredibly reasonable – especially for homemade yumminess.

I’m also looking forward to going back and trying their speciality star shaped pizza with five different flavour points and their Nutella pudding pizza.

Thank you to everyone at La Pizza for such great hospitality and making me feel so welcome along with all the family and friends!

I really recommend this place for a great pizza and fun atmosphere.

You can find their Facebook page here if you fancy a gander.
