Spicing Up The City | Bodega Derby Opens!

If you know Derby like I do, you’ll know that there aren’t that many places to go for a good burrito and a classic Margarita other than Mexico in Intu (check out my post celebrating National Margarita Day with them).

Well don’t dismay, Bodega has finally opened it’s doors on Sadler Gate!

Last week I was invited along to their Press & Bloggers night to see the venue, drink a few cocktails and try some of their South American cuisine.

On a rainy Wednesday afternoon, I took Kane along to visit this vibrant blue, three storey building, tucked in next to The Brooklyn Social on the cobbled streets of Sadler Gate.

When entering, we were greeted and taken on a swift tour of the building which is spread over two floors and then handed a Margarita to taste.

They were zingy, slightly salty and super strong – not exactly to my taste but perfect to get us in that fiesta feeling.

After mingling with a few other bloggers and gawking at the gorgeous decor, the food began to flood out from the kitchen – I could not wait!

The first dish to be brought out was the nachos covered in melted cheese, guac, sour cream, homemade salsa and jalapenos.

These are possibly the best nachos I’ve ever tried! They were wonderfully cheesy, crispy and lathered in sour cream which was so cooling and refreshing.

After the nachos were demolished, the food was practically on a conveyor belt, it just wouldn’t stop!

Spicy ground beef empanadas with a habanero dip.

Coxinhas – Rolled chicken and cheese balls in a creamy sauce blitzed with chilli, garlic, spring onion and parsley with lime mayo.

Dr Pepper Marinated Pork Tacos with slaw, lettuce and coriander.

All of the dishes shared round were absolutely delicious and things I would consider ordering. The Dr Pepper marinated pork was definitely something special and like nothing I have ever tasted before.

Not only were there a selection of foods to nibble on but there were a few drinks to try too!

One of our favourites of the night was the Rum Number Six cocktail which was mixed with passionfruit, mango and pineapple – fruity heaven.

Luckily, we were sat by the bar all night so we managed to see how some of the drinks were made including a delicious Elderflower Spritz.

Just when I thought I was about to pop open, they brought round some Churros with a silky caramel sauce to try.

They were lightly dusted in cinnamon sugar to give them some extra crisp and spice.

Not only were the food and drink options delicious, the atmosphere was great with everyone talking and buzzing about the place.

The bartenders were very knowledgeable about the drinks and the waiters and waitresses seemed very passionate about the food which made us feel very welcomed and relaxed.

The decor was the one thing that was seriously impressive though – very Instagrammable if I do say so myself.

I want to say a big thank you for Limegreen Communications, Bodega Derby and all the staff for inviting me down and treating me like a queen.

I had such a wonderful night and ate a tad bit too much food. I can’t wait to go back to try some of their menu in the coming weeks.
